I am a sham.

I am a s-h-a-m.

I tell my clients, my colleagues, and my friends to do things – smart things – in their businesses to help them grow … yet I tune out my own advice.

I nag one of my friends to share her heroic story, a story of battling cancer while growing a business and family.

I say…

  • Post your wise words on your blog.
  • Create an editorial calendar and stick to it.
  • Stop hiding your best stuff from all of us, your fans. We adore you.

Who am I to give such advice? Sure, I help build businesses for a living and am freakishly excited about storytelling and digital marketing. But am I practicing what I preach?

Confession: I’m a copywriter, selling my own services and words, yet I don’t post my own words on my blog. Shameful, right?

I don’t have an editorial calendar.

And I’m definitely hiding my best stuff from the world, and most importantly from my community.

I’m afraid … just like my friend.

I’m afraid to expose myself. To post something that isn’t jaw-droppin’ good. To say something controversial. To write something that might offend people or worse yet, make them not like me.

Because I have to be loved by everyone, right?

Wrong.

  • I’m ready to follow my own advice and walk the plank.
  • I’m ready to skip out of my comfort zone.
  • I’m ready to say what I need to say when I need to say it.

And then click publish.

So my question for you, are you practicing what you preach in your business?

Inspiration.
